MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) - The Manitowoc County Board voted Tuesday to place a moratorium on data centers in the county.

The moratorium will be in place for a year-and-a-half. The board approved it unanimously.

The initial proposal was for one year.

The moratorium gives the county time to research and draft specific zoning laws if a company wanted to build a data center there.

A Marquette Law School Poll in February showed more than two-thirds of Wisconsin voters think the costs of data centers outweigh the benefits.
