Runners wear blue for Teresa Halbach

HILBERT, Wis. (WBAY) – Hundreds of runners turned out in Calumet County Saturday for races, many wearing the color blue to honor Teresa Halbach.
Through a rainy start, hundreds gathered for runs, many donning blue shirts and shorts for a purpose.
“I think anytime you come from a small town, everybody comes together in a tragic time and it’s really telling of a small town, you don’t see that in bigger cities,” said Jill Walsh.
Walsh asked runners to wear blue to honor her college friend and area native, Teresa Halbach.
“I just put one little post on Facebook,” said Walsh “it just to show you how aware people are of social media, it was shared nearly 400 times, which I think is quite a bit for a small town.”
Killed more than 10 years ago, Halbach’s death, and the court case convicting the two men, Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, was the subject of a popular docu-series, ‘Making a Murderer’.
When Dassey’s conviction was overturned earlier this month, the story was put back into the spotlight.
Walsh was glad to see the support.
“It doesn’t have to be a special day, it doesn’t have to be her birthday, it doesn’t have to be an anniversary of her death,” said Walsh, “as much as the other individuals, the Netflix people, the people that are behind bars for what they did to her are getting the attention, there’s no reason Teresa can’t get that attention daily, weekly.”
