CHARLACK, Mo. (Gray News) — A 7-year-old girl near St. Louis is in critical condition after police said she ingested drugs in her slushie.

KSDK reported that police believe the girl overdosed on drugs from a woman in the girl’s mother’s home.

St. Ann Police Department Capt. Blake Carrigan said the girl’s mother called 911 when she noticed the girl acting strangely.

The child was taken to a hospital, where doctors found fentanyl and methamphetamine in her system.

“Even the smallest amount of fentanyl and these deadly drugs if a child were to touch the dust of it, touch their mouth, or just touch the bare minimum they’re able to overdose on that amount,” St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith said.

Carrigan said Jaslyn Raquelle Crawford, 32, admitted to police that she was using drugs in the bathroom when the child walked in. Officials believe that is when the drugs got into the girl’s slushie.

Carrigan said investigators found drugs in Crawford’s home and car during a search.

Crawford is being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

“It’s one of those tragic cases that you come across every now and then, the preventable ones that you feel like shouldn’t happen,” Carrigan said.
