(Gray News) - Officials in California are asking for an investigation into a mysterious, foul-smelling chunk of ice that fell from the sky and landed inside a man’s home.

According to Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, a chunk of ice crashed into a home at about 11:18 a.m. April 10.

The resident, Yuder Grau, was home at the time of the impact and told KCAL he heard an explosion. He said the ice crashed through his living room ceiling and landed on his couch.

Photos provided by Hahn show the aftermath, including holes in the roof and ceiling and the chunk of ice itself, which appears yellowish and dirty.

Grau was not injured, but the ice reportedly stunk, and there was concern about the stench’s potential hazards.

Hahn submitted a formal complaint to the Federal Aviation Administration. In the letter, she said the homeowner had looked up the flight data and believed a plane flew over the neighborhood at the time of the ice fall.

Hahn is asking for a thorough investigation. So far, the FAA has not provided an official confirmation on the origin of the ice.
