GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Gas prices continue to climb as the war in Iran goes on.

The statewide average is now around 3.63 for a gallon of unleaded regular gas, jumping in recent days and sitting well above where it was this time last year.

For drivers here in Northeast Wisconsin there’s not much they can do but pay up.

“I mean, I still need gas. So, I mean, I have to put it in. I still have to use it. So, I mean, there’s nothing you can really do about it,” said Menasha driver Katie Yohr.

While the state average is below the national average by about 30 cents a gallon, the price increases are showing no signs of stopping.

Companies like DoorDash are now pushing for relief, saying high fuel costs are cutting into driver earnings and driving up delivery costs for consumers.

Analysts with AAA warn the national average could hit four dollars a gallon as soon as next week. However, it’s too soon to know if Wisconsin will reach that same mark.

“Whether Wisconsin’s statewide average will get above $4 a gallon is much more of a toss-up. That really depends on, you know, how much longer the current trajectory stays on track, and how quickly things come into play that may reverse that,” said Nick Jarmusz, Director of Public Affairs for AAA.

Even if tensions ease, analysts say prices are unlikely to drop quickly, as oil markets and supply chains take time to stabilize.
