Suspect arrested after shooting that injured one in Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - The Oshkosh Police Department has made an arrest in relation to a shooting that happened on Friday night.
Police responded to the 2400 block of Blake Court in the City of Oshkosh around 8:40 p.m. on Friday for a report of a weapons incident and a male who had been shot.
When officers arrived, the area was secured, and the male juvenile was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries.
Police began an investigation and, through surveillance footage from nearby businesses, found a car that had been identified as a suspect vehicle in the shooting. The Oshkosh Police Department and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Highway 21 at Oakwood Road and took a 21-year-old male suspect and several people of interest into custody.
After interviewing the people in custody, two people of interest were released, and a search warrant was conducted at the suspect’s apartment. A handgun was found, and police believe that it was used in the shooting.
The 21-year-old was arrested on five counts of First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. Official charges are still pending.
Police say the shooting began between two cars, with five juveniles in one car and two juveniles and an adult in the other. The 21-year-old man fired into the rear of the other car and hit a juvenile in the arm. The Oshkosh Police Department believes that this was an isolated incident.
