GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Green Bay officials are considering a proposal to create a designated outdoor refreshment area, known as a DORA, on CityDeck.

Under the proposal, drinks would be allowed on the boardwalk within specific zones from May through October.

The DORA would operate from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, with extended hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Alyssa Proffitt, alderperson for District 7, described the area under consideration at Monday’s committee meeting.

“So tonight at committee what we decided was an area, for a few blocks if not six or seven, mostly incorporating the city deck and Fox River Trail. To allow those license holders, if they so choose, to seek a permit to allow that to start selling refreshments where patrons can walk and enjoy our beautiful city deck,” Proffitt said.

Officials said if the initial rollout goes well, they hope to expand the available spaces — possibly extending the zone to Washington Street so patrons can take drinks with them over the bridge.
