Police officer dies, another wounded in Indiana shooting; suspect in custody

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WPTA/Gray News) - Indiana State Police said late Monday that a suspect wanted for shooting two police officers near a high school was taken into custody.

The Beech Grove Police Department said two officers were shot while responding to a disturbance on Diplomat Court. Both were transported to Eskenazi Hospital, but Officer Brian Elliott died from his injuries.

“My heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones,” Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice said.

The second officer is expected to survive.

Police arrested 47-year-old Kenneth Johnson in connection to the shooting.
