MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - Several candidates in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race are releasing early fundraising figures as the official campaign finance reporting deadline approaches next week.

Official campaign finance reports are due January 15, but some candidates are already announcing their fundraising success. The figures are self-reported numbers showing how much money candidates have raised, not how much cash they have on hand or how much they have spent.

Republican Tom Tiffany, the congressman from the 7th District, announced Thursday morning that he has raised $2 million since entering the race in late September. Fellow Republican candidate Josh Schoeman has not revealed any recent fundraising totals.

On the Democratic side, Joel Brennan reports he raised over $500,000 in the three weeks after he entered the race. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley reported earlier this week that he has raised over $800,000. Crowley announced his bid for governor in early September.

The fundraising announcements come as candidates work to establish their viability ahead of the official filing deadline next week.
