Officers and deputies hold ‘Fill the Cruiser’ food drive
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Brown County Sheriff’s Office had squad cars parked outside of several Pick-N-Save locations on Friday to gather food donations.
They need your help to fill them with bags of food. It’s an effort to help those who are hungry in our community.
All you have to do is buy one of these bags inside the pick n save store for five dollars and bring it outside to the squad car and give it to a deputy. They go to the New Community Shelter in Green Bay to support its meal program.
They’re filled with seven cooking staples and can make up to five meals and will last for nearly a year.
The New Community Shelter serves dinner every day of the year not just to those who stay there but anyone who may be struggling.
Sheriff’s deputies say law enforcement helps the community in a lot of ways and this is a unique way to give support to those in need.
“We do come across a lot of people who are in need and utilize a lot of agencies and resources in our community. We help get those people to resources. We like to support them when we can too,” said Tom VanEgeren, with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
“People like to know that we’re here to utilize us sometimes people come in and they’re not sure I don’t know if I should be here but if you’re even thinking that then yeah you need to be here come in and enjoy a meal,” said Shannon Cohen, with the New Community Shelter.
It’s happening Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pick N Save in Bellevue, the store on Main Street in Green Bay and Metro Market on Lombardi.
You can purchase bags through Christmas as well, there just won’t be a cruiser outside, but they will go to New Community Shelter.
