FDL County Board approves resolution seeking to designate site of new county jail
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - An amended resolution approved Tuesday night in Fond du Lac designates two possible sites for the new county jail.
Fond du Lac County Board approved the resolution 14-10.
The current jail has issues and no longer meets code. The Department of Corrections is now pushing the county to fix some of those issues.
But the board says it doesn’t think it can set aside the money required to do so while still maintaining the current size of the jail.
The vacant lot on Scott Road is county-owned land that board chair Steve Abel says was purchased for this exact purpose.“So, the land was purchased 4.5 years ago or so by the county for this purpose. Now we got a jail that needs a *lot of work,” Abel said.
The other lot on Western Avenue will also be considered.
The next step is working up some possible designs and submitting them to the committee for review.
The county says it will decide on a location once the vision for the facility is clearer.
