GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Wisconsin is getting a major boost for community service programs.

Governor Tony Evers announced Tuesday that the state will receive $9.3 million in federal AmeriCorps grant funding.

This money will support twenty AmeriCorps programs across Wisconsin, along with local volunteer projects.

The funds will help with critical youth programs like early literacy and math tutoring, conservation efforts, recovery coaching and assistance for homeless youth.

The announcement comes after a legal battle to restore funding that was previously cut by the trump administration.

Governor Evers said the state fought hard to get the money back and is glad to see it going to those doing important work.
