SHERWOOD, Wis. (WBAY) - Counties and businesses are stocking up Monday night as they get ready for the winter weather headed our way.

There’s a lot of preparation that goes into making sure you have everything you need to tackle the snow. Especially if you’re a landscaping business owner like Ryan Richeson with.

“Calling my psychologist. Making sure they’re on staff so when I don’t get sleep for four days that they’re ready,” said Ryan Richeson, owner of Appleton Lawn Snow & Landscaping.

Stockpiling 250 tons of salt, plenty of vehicles, and up to 20 people on standby. Appleton lawn snow and landscaping feel ready to tackle any situation, and drivers can take steps to make sure they’re prepared as well.

Let’s say you run into an unexpected emergency while driving through a Winter storm. Brown County officials say that you’ll want to have something like a charging kit or extra bottles of water in your car, in case that emergency arises, because it just takes one moment to turn a situation from bad to worse.

“If we get complacent and we feel like we can handle anything, that’s when we can get ourselves in trouble,” said Ryan. “So, it’s important to remember that we are still susceptible to these things. These things do have real health and physical consequences and everything we can do to put ourselves in the best situation possible to prevent that is a good thing.”

With so much to take into consideration when tackling the snow, people are doing the best they can to get to their destination safely.

“So, touching base with all the drivers saying, ‘Hey it looks like it’s going to snow tomorrow. Just be ready in case it does,’” said Ryan. “Reaching out to all the clients and letting them know what the plan is. If it’s going to be a bigger storm. Communication is what it comes down to. Just lots and lots of communication.”

Lastly, if you see anyone working while on the road, please lower your speed and give them space for their job safely.
