Dense fog triggers 15-vehicle crash in Sheboygan County, multiple injured
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) - Heavy fog caused a chain of crashes involving 15 vehicles on Sheboygan County’s Highway 23, the sheriff’s office said.
Nine vehicles crashed earlier Thursday morning in Sheboygan County, leading to serious life threatening injuries. As deputies were redirecting traffic around the crash, another crash involving six vehicles occurred.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office said multiple 911 calls came in around 7:35 a.m. reporting multiple vehicles crashing on STHY 23 in the area of Sunset Road in the Town of Sheboygan Falls.
The sheriff’s office said there was low visibility due to heavy morning fog.
As deputies arrived, they determined there were at least 9 vehicles involved in a crash at STHY 23 east bound at Sunset Rd. As deputies began to close the scene down and redirect traffic, the sheriff’s office said another 6 vehicle crash occurred west of the first scene.
The sheriff’s office said an initial investigation indicated that a single vehicle was crossing STHY 23 at Sunset Rd in the fog and caused the initial crash. Serious life threatening injuries were reported at the first crash scene.
Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash. The sheriff’s office said more information will be released at a later time.
