One arrested after standoff on Columbia Avenue in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) -A Green Bay man was arrested after a nearly four-hour standoff on Columbia Avenue in Green Bay.

Green Bay police say that on Friday, a 44-year-old man fled from an attempted traffic stop in the area of Vroman and Mather streets.

On Sunday morning around 10 a.m., they located him, but officers say he fled into a home in the 800 block of Columbia Avenue, prompting the standoff.

“We went to locate him at his address in the 800 block of Columbia Avenue today. He refused to comply with officers, went inside the residence, and refused to come out. we had the Green Bay S.W.A.T. team help get him out of the residency, and he peacefully surrendered to officers,” says Captain Clint Beguhn with the Green Bay Police Department.

The SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team responded, and police say the suspect surrendered to law enforcement peacefully at 1:45 p.m.

The Green Bay Police Department was assisted by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Green Bay Fire Metro Fire Department, and they would like to extend thanks to the residents in the area for following the temporary shelter in place order.
