OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - Some homeowners in Oshkosh are getting much-needed revamps to their homes with the help of Habitat for Humanity with their Rock the Block initiative.

At the Rock the Block project site in Oshkosh volunteers are putting in “sweat equity.”

Volunteers work on outside projects with Rock the Block, that can be weeding the lawn, painting the fence, brush removal and even cleaning the gutters; some said last week they were siding homes.

Some of these volunteers are future homeowners, thanks to Habitat for Humanity, so they’re volunteering on Rock the Block.

The volunteers are putting in their hours, or “sweat equity” as they call it, to revitalize neighbors in Oshkosh, while also learning valuable skills about what it takes to be a homeowner.

Action 2 News spoke with one volunteer who is so thankful for the program and for what it is providing her and her family. She was honored to be part of the give back on Monday.

“It’s actually very rewarding. Until we got into the program, I didn’t know how loving this community is. It felt so good to give back, there’s so much support everywhere you go, and people are so nice and kind, so it’s a blessing we got into the program because we are experiencing it,” said Kao Yang.

Rock the Block Oshkosh has been revitalizing neighborhoods in Oshkosh since 2019. If you’d like to learn more about the program, including volunteering or signing up for services, check this website.
