Vehicle stolen while parked in front of sheriff’s department

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - A vehicle left running was stolen from the parking lot of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department last week.

The sheriff’s department confirmed Monday that a man stopped by the building on the evening of March 4 to pick up a lost item. He left the car running while heading inside the building to pick up the item.

While in the building, someone else entered the car and drove off.

An inmate who was recently released from the county jail, which is located next to the department, is suspected of stealing the car.

The sheriff’s department didn’t release the suspect’s information. As of Monday afternoon, the vehicle is still missing. The investigation is still active.

The sheriff’s department said this serves as a reminder not to leave your running car unattended.
