WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - Construction work is starting Monday on Interstate 41 in Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties.

The good news is, most drivers won’t have to deal with lane closures during the day.

Lane closures throughout the 14-mile stretch between County Rd. D or Military Ave. in Fond du Lac County to Hwy 26 in Winnebago County will happen at night. That’s generally 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the week.

On Fridays the nighttime work will start at 7 p.m. and run through 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The DOT says drivers should be prepared for lane closures and traffic shifts at night.

“Pay attention especially to the message boards on the side of the road,” Wisconsin Department of Transportation regional communications manager Mark Kantola said. “There will be lane closures. Also next week we’re going to start doing some lane shifts and some construction at the bridges and culverts.”

The DOT urges you to pay attention and put down your phone. It’s illegal to use a handheld phone in a workzone; you can still use Bluetooth for hands-free calls.
