Bishop Ricken celebrates Jubilee year
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A special mass in Green Bay kicked off a Jubilee year -- an event held every 25 years in the modern Catholic Church.
This year’s jubilee is the Jubilee of Hope, as declared by Pope Francis.
Monday’s mass at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral also marked 25 years since Diocese of Green Bay Bishop David Ricken was ordained by Pope John Paul II.
The bishop praised the kindness of people in the diocese. He also is encouraging people to take the time to help others in need.
“People here are already doing it, so generous and good, but sometimes people need a little encouragement too, and need reasons to be hopeful and to be hopeful themselves. All of us do,” Bishop Ricken said.
He added the Jubilee is marked around the world and is for everyone, not just Catholics.
