Habitat for Humanity leaders across Wisconsin honoring late former President Jimmy Carter
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Leaders at Habitat for Humanity across the state also speak highly of President Carter.
The CEO of the Greater Green Bay location called the former president and his wife Rosalynn the organization’s most famous volunteers.
John Weyenburg, the former president, and CEO of the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity says anyone in the organization who worked with Jimmy Carter will tell you he was caring, compassionate, and one of the most humble people you will ever meet.
Weyenburg says after his presidency, Jimmy Carter served as one of the strongest advocates of Habitat for Humanity, bringing international attention to their mission.
President Carter picked up the hammer himself on many occasions, including his annual Jimmy Carter work project, which made its way to Milwaukee in 1989.
Weyenburg further details the former president’s impact.
“A person of his stature who is willing to give up his free time to help individuals in our community and around the world to have a better place to live, it’s remarkable. He sets an example for all of us to follow.”
Habitat for Humanity in Oshkosh says donations have increased since President Carter’s passing, saying in a press release:
“We are thankful for the many people who are honoring President Carter by donating to Habitat International and to their local Habitat affiliates. We encourage people to volunteer, to feel what it is like to build a new world.”
Weyenburg says Habitat for Humanity expects to honor President Carter’s legacy well beyond his years of volunteer work with the organization.
