The Packers honor our military with a ‘Salute to Service’ Sunday game

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Sunday’s game at Lambeau Field, was also the Packer’s Salute to Service, where they recognize veterans and active members of the military.
For fans who went, it meant seeing lots of camouflage and even a halftime tribute.
Tickets? Check. Camouflage towels? Check. The sounds of freedom from a C-17 and KC-46 flying overhead? Check!
This is how the Packers honor the brave men and women who serve to protect this country for Sunday’s “Salute to Service” game. They kicked things off before the game by honoring a Milwaukee native who served during the Cold War. He found out that his daughter nominated him a week ago.
“My daughter surprised me with this because she knows how big of a fan I am,” said Veteran, David Zawicki. “She did this without me knowing. Then when she got that phone call, she played that voicemail to me and I was driving. Again, I got very emotional cause she knows my love of the Green Bay Packers.”
The Packers also planned a special performance of the national anthem from veteran and country singer, Craig Morgan. He said he takes great pride in representing our military because no other country celebrates freedom like us.
”We have the privilege of celebrating those freedoms because we have men and women who are willing to put themselves in harm’s way to ensure that we maintain those freedoms. It’s such a great privilege to represent, again not only my entertainers, my country, but my fellow soldiers,” said veteran Craig Morgan.
To even go a step further, they held an Oath of Enlistment ceremony for the new recruits at Lambeau, which was led by Janesville native General Andrew Poppas.
“When you see the next generation of patriots committing themselves to the service of our country. Raising their hand, understanding the importance of what that oath means, it inspires me,” said Veteran Andrew Poppas.
These new recruits will make their way to basic training this summer.
Whether you’re about to serve, currently serving, or no longer serving, we appreciate you for giving us the freedom to be an American.
