Inflatable IUDs appear on Wisconsin university campuses
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The issue of reproductive health has been at the center of the 2024 election. One group is taking a different approach to make their voices heard.
The Americans for Contraception Education Fund is displaying 20-foot, inflatable IUDs at campuses and events around Wisconsin.
They call it Freeda Womb.
It’s been displayed at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and U.W.-Green Bay this week.
The group says it’s meant to educate people about the threat to reproductive rights and the Right to Contraception Act.
Organizers say since the overturning of Roe v. Wade that removed federal protections for abortion, the availability of contraception is in jeopardy, too.
“This is kind of the perfect moment to raise awareness of that. This is important. We’ve got to keep an eye on it and protect it,” Emma Embers, vice president of the UWGB College Democrats, said.
This weekend Freeda Womb will be displayed at Lambeau Field before going to Milwaukee and Madison next week.
Action 2 News reached out to the Wisconsin Republican Party for reaction to the display. Party Chair Brian Schimming replied, “As far back as his very first run for the White House in 2016, President Trump has supported making birth control available to all without a prescription. Voters see through this false narrative peddled by Democrats, and the results will show on Election Day.”
