HUD official delivers housing grant to Oneida Nation
ONEIDA, Wis. (WBAY) - A new Oneida tribal housing investment was delivered Friday by the principal deputy assistant secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Richard Monocchio ceremonially presented $6 million through a federal Indian housing block grant. The funding will go toward 16 new housing units.
“For the first time in 50 years, we had a president mention housing in his State of the Union address. And he followed up in Reno, Nevada, and his message was simply ‘We have to build’. Right? Build, build, build is what the president said and that’s how I look at it as well,” said Monocchio
In total, $151 million in block grants is being distributed to tribes across the country.
