Wisconsin & Marquette each earn #5 seeds for March Madness

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Wisconsin and Marquette each earned #5 seeds for the NCAA Tournament.

At least one #12 seed has upset a #5 seed in 29 of the last 34 years.

The Badgers unnerving matchup comes Friday against Oregon. The game will be played on the west coast, no less, in San Jose, California.

Wisconsin and Oregon met in March Madness in 2014 and 2015, with the Badgers winning both times er route to Final Fours both years.

The Golden Eagles must face dangerous Murray State on Thurday in first round play after Marquette lost 5 of its final 6 games. That game will be in Hartford, Connecticut.

That #5-vs.-#12 showdown will feature the nation's 6th and 8th highest scorers in Marquette's Marcus Howard and the Racers' Ja Morant.

Area basketball fans should also keep their eye on Iowa State, which features former Oshkosh North HS star Tyrese Haliburton, who helped the Cyclones beat Kansas for the Big 12 Tournament championship this weekend.

Iowa State has earned a #6 seed in the Midwest Region and will open tourney play against Ohio State on Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
