Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic tees off

ONEIDA, Wis. (WBAY) - The Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic teed off Thursday in Oneida, with birdie binges setting the pace in the tournament that boasts a $2 million purse.

Nearly half the field was under par for Thursday’s first round. Sei Young Kim and Laura Gonzalez-Escallon led the way after carding 7-under rounds of 65.

Chatanooga, Tennessee, native Brooke Pancake fired a bogey-free 67, and has become a fan of the course.

“Obviously I love this golf course,” Pancake said. “I'm excited to play the next few days. It kind of reminds me of being back at home. The fairways are a little bit more forgiving on the tee shots, but if you hit your irons well and are putting well you can score. I like the golf courses that reward you for playing well.”
