NHL's Lightning add Lalonde as assistant coach

TAMPA BAY, Fla. (WBAY) - The last two coaches to win a USHL Clark Cup Championship for the Green Bay Gamblers are joining forces. The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced the addition of Derek Lalonde as an assistant coach.

Tampa Bay’s current head coach, Jon Cooper was the Gamblers coach from 2008-10. While Lalonde was head coach in Green Bay from 2011-14.

Lalonde spent the previous two seasons as head coach of the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey league which is the top affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild.

During his tenure in Green Bay he registered a 114-56-8-6 record. In the 2011-12 season, he led the Gamblers to a 47-9-2-2 record and the organization’s fourth Clark Cup Championship. That year he was also named the USHL Coach of the Year.

Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper previously won a Clark Cup in 2010 with the Gamblers.
