NEW YORK CITY, NY. (WBAY) - Milwaukee Bucks guard/forward Giannis Antetokounmpo won the NBA Most Improved Player Award Monday night in New York City.
The “Greek Freak” is the first Milwaukee Bucks player to ever win the award. Antetokounmpo averaged six more points per game in 2016-17.
Giannis averaged career highs in both blocks (1.9) and steals (1.6) per game during the 2016-17 season, which ranked sixth and 11th in the NBA respectively. He also ranked fifth in total blocks (151) and ninth in total steals (131).
Antetokounmpo beat out Utah center Rudy Gobert and Denver center Nikola Jokic. Giannis made his first All-Star game in 2017 and was named to the NBA All-Defensive second team on Monday and the All-NBA Second Team in May.
