GREEN BAY, WIS (WBAY)- For the second straight year, LeRoy Butler fails to move into the finalist stage for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The list of 25 semifinalists was narrowed down to 15 finalists on Thursday night.
The former Packers safety was the first defensive back in the NFL to record 20 career sacks and 20 career interceptions, finishing with 20.5 and 38 respectively, in 181 career games. But he was not among five defensive backs who were named finalists on Thursday, 3 of them safeties.
Clay Matthews Jr., the father of current Packer Clay Matthews, also failed to advance after being a semifinalist for the 3rd time.
