Badgers will burn Coan's red-shirt as QB now slated to start Pinstripe Bowl

MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - A late night tweet from Jack Coan’s dad proved to be correct.
Thursday, Badgers head coach Paul Chryst confirmed that the sophomore QB, Coan, will start at quarterback in next week’s Pinstripe Bowl in place of an injured Alex Hornibrook. The decision burns Coan’s red-shirt.
Hornibrook suffered a concussion this season and has been in and out of the lineup.
He played against Minnesota. Chryst says Hornibrook did not suffer an injury in that game, but rather had earlier symptoms reappear.
Hornibrook has even seen a specialist in Michigan.

“You know, Alex did really participate in a couple weeks of bowl practices and then kind of had some reoccurring occurrences,” Chryst said. “And you know, we're going with Jack. And one of the things we talked about with Jack at the beginning of the season was that we wouldn't play him in kind of times when the game was decided. And you know, every time that he's played the game's been in the balance. And this is one more great opportunity for him."
