GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A colorful map will be a valuable item for runners and spectators at the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon. It shows all the places available for parking.
Green means go. Red means no.
The course has shifted downtown for the 20th annual race. Sundays are typically quiet in downtown Green Bay. On May 19, the area will be hopping with runners, spectators, volunteers and staff.
"We are asking folks to show up a little earlier than they might normally do, just because it is a new view, a new scene," says Toni Jaeckels, race director, Cellcom Green Bay Marathon.
The marathon starts at the KI Convention Center on Main Street. It finishes at Leicht Park on the west side of the Fox River.
"So there's ample parking at WPS [Wisconsin Public Service building], Pine Street Ramp, Cherry Street Ramp. All sorts of parking available," Jaeckels says. "I would recommend fill WPS and they can start going to the ramp."
The Main Street ramp--closest to the court--is reserved for volunteers and medical crews.
A new race course means new road closures. Broadway will be shut down for several hours. Main Street will also be closed.
Jaeckels says runners are ready for something new.
"It was time for a change, time for change in the course, and we have this beautiful trail system. Why aren't we using it? It just makes good sense," Jaeckels says.
The full marathon starts at 7 a.m. The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m.
Jaeckels says runners need to be in place a half hour before start time.
