Wisconsin confirms eight more cases of bleeding linked to fake weed

WISCONSIN (WBAY) - Wisconsin health officials have confirmed eight more cases of severe bleeding attributed to the use of "fake weed."

“There have been eight new cases in the last two weeks,” said State Health Officer Karen McKeown. “We strongly urge people to stop using these drugs. If you or someone you know has a serious reaction to synthetic cannabinoids, call 911 or go to the emergency department right away.”

The Department of Health Services says the fake weed is tainted with rat poison. That's causing people to bleed out.

These products are illegal in Wisconsin.

Since March, Wisconsin has confirmed 40 cases of bleeding linked to fake weed. There are 14 probable cases.

There has been one death linked to use of fake weed in Wisconsin.

Severe bleeding has been confirmed in Dane, Milwaukee, Outagamie and Rock counties.

DHS urges fake weed users to see a doctor. Fake weed can stay in a person's system for months, putting them at risk for bleeding.
