GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Weidner Center announced performances for the 2019-20 season starting in September, and it includes the inaugural season of a new philharmonic orchestra.
The Weidner Center Philharmonic Orchestra will bring University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music faculty together with orchestral musicians who live and work in Northeast Wisconsin, filling a cultural void since the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra was disbanded in 2015.
A complete schedule from September 2019 through May 2020 appears below.
With a theme this year of "Connection," the Weidner Center's plans include Broadway's RENT (October 9), Russian Ballet Theatre's "Swan Lake" (October 25) Paw Patrol Live! (November 9-10) and, just ahead of the holiday season, Cirque Dreams Holidaze (November 21).
There are tributes to Duke Ellington (December 12), Carole King (April 6) and Patsy Cline (May 8-24).
Local talents are showcased, including the philharmonic orchestra, Dudley Birder Chorale and the Allouez Village Band.
Shakespeare gets the hip-hop treatment in "The Q Brothers present 'Othello:' the Remix" on February 14 and "Broadway Princess Party" brings some popular singing princesses to the stage (appropriate for girls 6 to 116) on March 27.
The Weidner Center says it will bring "immersive onstage experiences" to audiences, including two shows in Cofrin Family Hall where the audience will be seated on the stage with the artists: (M)iyamoto is Black Enough on February 20 and Speakeasy on Stage on March 28.
Tickets are available first to Weidner Center subscribers. Single tickets go on sale June 14 at 11 a.m. (except single tickets for Paw Patrol Live, which are on sale now.) You can become a subscriber or purchase single tickets the same ways, online at WeidnerCenter.com, or calling or visiting Ticket Star locations.
