Manitowoc County Coroner identifies man killed in semi crash

MAPLE GROVE, Wis. (WBAY) - UPDATE 11/25:

The Manitowoc County Coroner's Office has released the name of a California man killed in a crash involving two semi trucks.

The victim was identified as 55-year-old Jose Luis Perez of San Jose, Calif. The coroner's office says Perez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the Nov. 19 crash.

The crash happened at the intersection of County Road K and County Road W in the township of Maple Grove.

Investigators say Perez was driving a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer east on County Road K when he failed to stop for a stop sign. The trucker collided with a southbound 2012 Western Star semi driven by the Kiel trucker. The Kiel man was hauling a loaded logging trailer.

Perez was ejected from his semi and pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner's office says he suffered blunt force trauma

The Kiel man was trapped in his semi. He was rescued and transported to the hospital.

Intoxicants are not suspected.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office has released new information about a fatal collision between two semi trucks.

A 55-year-old trucker from San Jose, California, was killed in the crash. A 27-year-old Kiel trucker was taken to a Green Bay hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

No names were released.

The crash happened Nov. 19 at about 1:40 p.m. Emergency crews were called to the intersection of County Road K and County Road W in the township of Maple Grove.

The collision caused a small fire in one engine compartment and a "large debris field."

The roadway was closed until about 6:30 p.m.

The sheriff's office says the following intersections are blocked. They're asking people to avoid the area:

County Highway W at Marquette Rd.
County Highway W at Mancal Rd.
County Highway K at County G
County Highway K at Hickory Hills Rd.

Authorities don't know when the roads will reopen.
