Ashwaubenon Public Safety Chief Eric Dunning tells Action 2 News that a passerby spotted the fire just after 1:00 a.m.

The duplex is on Cormier Road, just west of Packerland Drive.

The passerby called 911, telling dispatchers two people were in the connected homes.

Dunning says both people, one adult in each side of the duplex, had safely gotten outside before emergency crews arrived.

The first firefighters on scene reported heavy fire in the back of the duplex.

Green Bay, De Pere, Lawrence, Hobart, and Howard sent fire crews to help Ashwaubenon firefighters.

Dunning explained the challenge of fighting a fire in a duplex. "It's almost like having two structures, and the involvement of the fire, both duplexes were equally involved," Dunning tells Action 2 News. "So it took double the crews to go in there to fight the fire."

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

the Red Cross is helping find a place to stay for the two people who lived in the duplex.
