Sheriff's Office identifies drivers killed in Winneconne crash

TOWN OF WINNECONNE, Wis. (WBAY) -- UPDATE:

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office has released the names of two drivers killed in Monday's head-on crash in the Town of Winneconne.

The westbound driver was identified as 30-year-old Koley J. O'Brien of Winneconne.

The eastbound driver was identified as 53-year-old Charles P. Mier of Omro.

At 8:44 p.m., rescue crews were called to a report of a crash on Highway 116 at Harbor South Drive.

The Sheriff's Office says evidence and witness statements show O'Brien's vehicle crossed the center line and collided with Mier's vehicle.

Both vehicles were traveling at highway speeds.

O'Brien and Mier were pronounced dead at the scene.

"At this time, it does not appear that alcohol was a factor, however toxicology results are pending," says the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office. "The investigation is ongoing."

Officials offered condolences to family and friends of the drivers.

Two people are dead after a head-on crash in the Town of Winneconne.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday night on Highway 116, just west of Highway 45.

Both drivers were killed. No one else was in the vehicles.

Highway 116 was closed for nearly three hours while officials investigated and towed the cars.

Deputies will release the names of the people killed after they talk with their families.
