SHAWANO, Wis. (WBAY) - The Shawano School Board and ThedaCare have reached an agreement allowing a ThedaCare mental health therapist to work at the schools.
ThedaCare tells Action 2 News the therapist will work on-site at Olga Brener Intermediate School and Shawano Community Middle School for eight hours each week, seeing eight to ten students each week.
Julie Meyer, Thedacare's director of behavioral health, said in a statement, "There is a growing and unmet need for mental health services for children and youth. We are eager to be able to provide mental health care in the Shawano School District. Good mental health is critical to children’s success in school and life. This agreement with the school district allows children to access needed services regardless of transportation challenges or other environmental concerns that would inhibit ability to access care."
The date for the on-site therapist to begin wasn't announced.
