OCONTO COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Catholic school teacher has been charged with Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child in Oconto County.

Brynn Larsen, 29, was arrested May 3. That's when charges were filed.

Larsen is currently a teacher at Father Allouez School, which is part of Green Bay Area Catholic Education (GRACE) system.

The charges were filed in response to sexual assaults that happened in 2014 while Larsen was a volleyball coach and substitute teacher at Oconto Falls High School.

Investigators received a anonymous complaint on May 29, 2014, that Larsen was in a relationship with an Oconto Falls student who played volleyball.

A witness spotted Larsen and a 15-year-old girl holding hands and kissing. The witness said Larsen was giving the girl one-on-one volleyball coaching and hosting the victim for sleepovers.

"Information was also included that others had mentioned the inappropriate relationship to the [Oconto Falls] Athletic Director and nothing was done about it," reads a criminal complaint obtained by Action 2 News.

Because the detective knew the Larsen family, the department contacted the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to assist with the investigation.

At the time, the victim told investigators she had a "close friendship" with Larsen. She said they would share a bed sometimes but denied a sexual relationship.

Larsen told investigators that the victim didn't have a lot of friends her own age and she didn't think their relationship was inappropriate. Investigators told Larsen that they didn't think it was a "good idea" for someone in her position to be sharing a bed with a 15-year-old girl.

A detective spoke with Oconto Falls High School Athletic Director Jerry Moynihan, who said he remembered people complaining to him about the relationship, but he was unable to substantiate the claims. "Jerry said that he did have a discussion with Brynn about boundaries," reads the criminal complaint.

In April 2019, the victim contacted police and asked if she could provide more information about happened in 2014. The victim detailed a sexual relationship with Larsen.

A detective set up a sting through Facebook, posed as the victim, and made contact with Larsen. "They had a lengthy discussion over approximately 2 hours during which time Brynn admitted to the sexual relationship," reads the criminal complaint.

Larsen is charged in Oconto County with Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child; Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 years of Age; and two counts of Child Enticement.

The principal of Father Allouez Catholic School where Larsen is employed as a physical education teacher informed parents about the allegations last week.

"Larsen upon hire to Father Allouez Catholic School passed all background and reference checks during the hiring process," reads a letter from principal Kay Franz. "Upon learning of the situation for the first time today, we immediately responded by full cooperating with authorities."
