Target 2 Consumer Alert: Automated "IRS" scam calls

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - A Target 2 Consumer Alert about another IRS phone scam. We're hearing about this one hitting the Oshkosh area.

People targeted in the scam are receiving an automated phone call with bad grammar threatening a lawsuit or arrest.

The recording says: ""IRS is filing a lawsuit on your name because you had tried to do fraud with the IRS, Internal Revenue Service, and we are taking legal action, and we are issuing an arrest warrant on your name."

The recording goes on to say you will be given more information when you call a phone number.

As Target 2 has reported before, you should never call the number back.

The IRS will never call you and threaten you with a lawsuit or arrest if you owe back taxes, and it does not accept any form of payment over the phone.

If you answer your phone and believe it's a scam, hang up right away. Don't engage the caller. Tell your friends so that they're aware of it, too.
