With the weather finally starting to feel like spring -- even summer! -- it was the perfect day Sunday for 600 runners to lace up for a new run through Green Bay.
The inaugural Sweet Home Green Bay 5K began downtown. The course ran along CityDeck and went down the Fox River recreational trail and back.
The race was also a food drive. Runners could bring a donation for Paul's Pantry.
The organization behind the 5K holds a similar race in Milwaukee and wanted to bring the experience to our area.
"Green Bay, whether you live here or not, people still call it home. It's a great place. We love every opportunity to get up here, so we were thrilled to get up here and spend some time with the folks here," Alex Ogden, race director for 414 Events, said.
Every runner received a T-shirt, a finishers medal which is also a bottle opener and magnet, and a free beer from Titletown.
