SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) - A 25-year-old man has been arrested on child abuse charges after a child in his care suffered life-threatening injuries.
On Feb. 8, police were called to Memorial Hospital for a report of a child, nearly three years of age, who had suffered "substantial injuries consistent with abuse."
Police learned the suspect had been taking of his girlfriend's child at his home.
The child was unresponsive when they arrived at the hospital.
The child was airlifted to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for "severe life-threatening injuries," police say. Investigators say the injuries are result of blunt force trauma consistent with abuse.
The child remains in the intensive care unit of Children's Hospital.
The caregiver was arrested on a probation hold. Police have referred charges of felony child abuse and possession of marijuana to the Sheboygan County District Attorney's Office.
No names were released.
