Semis collide on I-41, blocking southbound lanes for 90 minutes

A semi tractor-trailer jackknifed then caught fire when it was hit by another semi on I-41 in Oshkosh Feb. 7, 2019

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - A semi driver was injured in a chain reaction crash that closed a section of Interstate 41 in Oshkosh Thursday night.

The Wisconsin State Patrol tells Action 2 News a semi with an empty trailer jack-knifed and hit the median barrier while going south on I-41, south of Highway 21.

The semi didn't have its lights on, and a second semi ran into it.

The semi-tractor of the first semi started on fire. Both people who were inside got out. The driver was injured, but we're told the injuries aren't life-threatening. Video shows the trailer sustained some fire damage.

The fire did not spread to the second semi, which was carrying paper products.

Area roads were slippery from a wintry mix, including sleet and snow, but the state patrol says the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

All southbound lanes of Interstate 41 were closed for about 90 minutes.
