Runners 'moove' to the finish line at Kickin' It with the Cows event

Runners take off at the start line Saturday morning during Kickin' It with the Cows run/walk

DE PERE, Wis. Runners were greeted at the finish line by dairy cows this morning during the inaugural 'Kickin' it with the Cows' Run and Walk in De Pere.

The run and walk is a fundraising campaign by the Dairy Cares of Wisconsin, the money raised will go to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Nearly 1,500 participants went on either a 10k run or a 5k run and walk through De Pere and along the Fox River. After crossing the finish line runners and walkers were treated to cheese, milk, ice cream and beer.

Event Chairman, Michael Kuehl, says he originally hoped for 500 people to join Saturday's event, but ended up with almost triple that amount. Proceeds from the run and walk will go towards youth and their families who are going through health crises.

"We're trying to raise money for all kinds of families that need support and help through the tough times not just financially, it's also support to get them emotionally through this tough time in their life," said Kuehl.

The Dairy Cares of Wisconsin Organization hopes 'Kickin' it with the Cows' will be an annual event. Their signature event, the annual garden party, has raised more than $630,000 for the children's hospital. The garden party will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017.
