GREEN BAY, WIS (WBAY)- Aaron Rodgers only chance to practice before Sunday’s game against the Vikings will come on Saturday. The quarterback once again sat out practice on Thursday because of the sprained left knee he suffered against the Bears. The Packers don’t practice on Fridays during the season.
Rodgers said on Wednesday that he wants to play, but wouldn’t commit to playing. Head coach Mike McCarthy was also using caution on Thursday regarding Rodgers’ chances of playing against Minnesota. "This is no layup. That's why it's a day-to-day situation."
DeShone Kizer was expected to take the bulk of the reps in practice Thursday, with rookie Tim Boyle also taking some snaps. If Kizer has to play Sunday, it will be against a Vikings team he faced last year as a rookie starter with the Browns. Minnesota won that October game in London 33-16. Kizer finished 18-34 for 179 yards and a rushing touchdown. He was sacked 3 times. Minnesota finished last season as the top-ranked defense in the league, and held the 49ers to 16 points last Sunday.
“You just have to know where those guys are on the field, understand they are going to play their stuff,” Kizer said Wednesday. “And they are going to bring some exotics on third down that we have to be prepared for. But the good thing is, you are coming into a system with a quarterback that has played against this defense quite a bit, who knows the ins and outs of it. And hopefully I can learn quite a bit from Aaron with that and be prepared if my number is called.”
But does he want his number called? “I just want to win a Super Bowl,” said Kizer. “We have the best player in the league in our locker room, and I hope he’s ready to go. And I look forward to cheering him on and doing whatever I can to help him. But it is also my duty and made my job to make sure I’m ready to go, just in case he’s not.”
WR Davante Adams (shoulder) returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis. Rookie LB Oren Burks (shoulder) was also limited for a 2nd straight day, although he did increase his workload in the padded practice.
