Renovations to former Oshkosh Miles Kimball building to begin soon
More changes are coming to the growing Sawdust District in Oshkosh as the city council gives the okay Tuesday night on a renovation of the former Miles Kimball building.
The historical property is located in the 800 block of South Main Street, close to where the new Menominee Nation Arena also sits.
After years of sitting vacant, a major renovation project targeting the former Miles Kimball building is now just weeks away from starting.
Plans call for a combination of office space, mixed with a restaurant on the first floor.
"It's a 120-year-old building, and for us it seems to be the premier intersection in this part of town with 9th Street coming off the highway coming into the new entertainment district here with the stadium and some other very nice developments in the area," said Will Steiner of Bridgeview Holdings.
Steiner says he's still seeking a restaurant tenant that he hopes to sign soon.
A tech company has already signed on to occupy the fourth floor.
On the top of the buildings, plans call for a rooftop bar with views of the downtown area, Fox River and Lake Winnebago. .
In a vote Tuesday, the project received unanimous support from the city council.
"I keep thinking we want to go more vertical for the views. I mean, the views are of Lake Winnebago, and you pay top dollar for building, be it office space, apartments, condos that have views," said Oshkosh Mayor Steve Cummings.
Construction is expected to begin in July and last about six months.
