Recall on pre-cut melon due to possible salmonella contamination

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Target 2 Consumer Alert affecting grocery stores in Wisconsin. Caito Foods is recalling pre-cut melon from stores due to the possibility of salmonella contamination.

The FDA said nearly 100 people have gotten sick in 9 of the 16 states where the fruit was distributed.

In Wisconsin the contaminated fruit went to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's but also Gordon Food Service stores which can be found in our region.

The FDA says if you bought the product from one of those stores and it has a best used date of April 19th or earlier, you should throw it out.
Symptoms of salmonella usually begin 12 to 72 hours after consuming the bacteria.

The symptoms including diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.
