UPDATE: Racine man who died in a Waushara County pond identified

DEERFIELD, Wis. (WBAY) - The Waushara County Sheriff's office has identified the man who drowned in Upper White River Mill pond on Friday.

Authorities say 45-year-old Kevin Mauer of Racine was found after an hours-long search effort by divers in Waushara County.

The sheriff's office says the man was with his family at a cottage.

He was on a paddle board when he fell into the water and didn't resurface. Authorities say he was not wearing a life jacket.

The Wautoma Fire Department's dive team began to search where witnesses said Mauer went under.

Dive teams from the Neshkoro and Princeton fire departments also joined the search. Their search was interrupted for about 15 minutes by severe weather.

Around 8:05 p.m., divers found Mauer. He was pronounced dead by the coroner shortly after.

A counselor with the Waushara County Human Services also went to the scene to help the family.
