Police: Scammers hacking WhatsApp accounts, sending murder videos
Scammers are targeting users of the WhatsApp messaging app and using intimidation to get money.
Green Bay Police recently took a report about this scam. Here's how it works: the suspects find phone numbers made public on Facebook and use them to hack into WhatsApp. (Facebook owns WhatsApp.)
The suspects demand money from the victim by intimidating them with "very graphic videos of brutal murders," police say.
Police suspect these are "stock videos" from the internet.
Here's what police recommend to protect your privacy:
--Secure your Facebook and other social media accounts
--Don't make your phone number and location public
--Use unique passwords
--Don't share your password
