Oshkosh student arrested after social media threat

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) -- A 17-year-old in the Oshkosh School District has been arrested after posting a selfie where he points a gun at the camera with a profane caption underneath the photo.

The Oshkosh Police Department says the Oshkosh School Resource Officer investigated a complaint about the image on Monday.

Police conducted a search warrant at the student's home, which led to the recovery of a firearm that was confiscated.

Police say there were no weapons recovered at the school.

Authorities say the incident had the potential to cause disruption at school which resulted in his arrest.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Winnebago County Jail and charged with violating Wisconsin statutes regarding a computer message threatening injury or harm, disorderly conduct, resisting or obstructing an officer, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18.

Police did not indicate where the photo was taken or make public what the caption on the photo said.
