OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - The Oshkosh Area Humane Society is celebrating a record year.
It says in 2018 the shelter saw better than a 97 percent live release rate. That's the percentage of animals adopted, transferred to another shelter, or returned to its owner.
The Oshkosh Area Humane Society says that's not just their best rate but the best of any open-admission shelter in Wisconsin that it's seen. Open-admission shelters don't turn away any animal on the basis of age, health or temperament.
On average, the shelter serves 2,200 animals every year, most of them from the surrounding area.
