New development coming to former Kaukauna dog track site
We're learning more about a major development coming to the site of the former Kaukauna dog track.
The property is located along I-41 and highway 55.
It's been mostly vacant for the past two decades.
There's already signs of activity on the property where the former Kaukauna dog track, once sat.
This includes the construction of a dental office starting July 23rd---and a new, larger medical facility which the city has an accepted offer on for 15 acres.
Director of Planning and Community Development Bob Jakel said,"Obviously, whenever you construct a medical facility they look to go into the future so to speak. While they haven't announced any direct plans to have any overnight stays that is a potential option with any medical facility that would be developed."
Right now the name of the medical group is being kept confidential, but is likely to be revealed at the time of the real estate closing--which is in October.
So far only three businesses occupy space in what's now called Commerce Crossing.
The city says there's still 30 acres up for grabs, and there is hope for additional future expansion.
"The visibility that piece of property has to the traffic, tons of traffic that 41 sees, will be great, kind of a once they build it, they will come. I think that other businesses are going to follow suit," said Kelli Clussman, Executive Director of The Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce.
However just last year Wal-Mart decided not to build here after expressing interest, and in the past plans for a water park and even a gaming casino were also scrapped.
Jakel said,"This is taking it to a different level. It's professional services. It has more of a longevity stay to it, being a medical center."
